July 22, 2021, Hamilton, Bermuda: Opposition Leader, the Hon. N. Cole Simons, J.P., M.P., and other members of the One Bermuda Alliance today met with the new US Consul General to Bermuda, Karen Grissette during a courtesy visit. During the meeting which lasted over an hour, the overarching objective was to keep the lines of communication open with the new counsel and to highlight Bermuda’s positive contributions to the U.S., including:
• The OECD/G20 inclusive framework on Base Erosion and Profit Sharing, simply put, that which pertains to global tax harmonization;
• Tax transparency agreements currently in place with Bermuda, the U.S. and other OECD countries;
• Bermuda’s economic support and positive contribution to the US economy through its financial services, global life, and reinsurance industries;
• Ocean risks; and
• Bermuda’s aim to become the centre of excellence for global climate change risks.
