Karen is an entrepreneur who has built a successful business from the ground up and has worked to expand opportunities for women and disadvantaged people all of her life.
She became involved in politics in 2008 because she wanted to bring an end to divisive politics and to encourage more reasonable dialogue between all sides to make Bermuda a better place for all.

Karen attended Bermuda High School for Girls and Warwick Academy before undertaking higher education at Bermuda College and the University of New Haven to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. After university she returned to Bermuda to work in the hotel industry at Elbow Beach Hotel. In 1992 at the age of 28, she purchased the Diet Center weight loss center and created the first one on one personal training studio called Magnum Fitness facility. In 1994 she opened a larger facility called Magnum Power Force Gym and Diet Center on Front Street. In 2005 the business moved to the present location on Church Street and is the largest facility on the Island. She has been the financial accountant, marketing director, human resources manager, manager and Diet Center counselor for the business for the past 28 years. She has helped many clients lead healthier lives and this is her passion helping people. She took the company from a small business of 2000 square feet in 1992 to the Best of Bermuda Gold award winner at 11,000 square feet. In her spare time she has been involved with the National 100 Day Challenge and the National High School Challenge helping many people reach their goal to lose weight and to become fit. Karen is a founding member of the OBA and was its first executive party secretary, serving for four years before becoming deputy chair in 2014. She has been the Women’s Caucus Chair since 2016.
She is currently working on important social issues that affect women and the social fabric of our society and to effect legislation that will make a difference in our lives.
Her focus is on legislation such as updating the Mental Health Act and Stalking Act, making sure the new homeless shelter is completed, invest in our special needs community to name a few.,
She feels we must look at ways of decreasing the Government burden on the taxpayer, reduce the red tape holding entrepreneurs back and most importantly grow the revenues of the Government and create jobs.
Healthy lives, healthy communities
As a diet consultant and gym owner, Karen knows the importance of healthy lifestyles for maintaining long and productive lives and keeping the cost of health care down. The OBA will pay more than lip service to preventative health care in the next parliament because it is the only long term answer to controlling health care costs. Karen will be part of this drive.
